5-5 vs White Sox
Brandon Phillips got his first two hits of spring training, including a two run homer, and the Reds blew a four run lead in the ninth on Sunday before settling for a 5-5 tie with the Chicago White Sox in Goodyear.
The second baseman was 0 for 14 before he signled home Drew Stubbs, Philips added a two-run homer off JJ Putz in the seventh inning, putting the Reds ahead 5-1.
Minor league reliever Jordan Smith started the ninth for Cincinnati and retired the first two batters. He gave up a walk and four consecutive hits, including three doubles. the managers decided to call it after nine innings becasue then had used all their pitchers.
Jay Bruce went 1 for 3 on the day and delivered a RBI single while Joey Votto went 2 for 3, with a RBI single in the fourth inning.
The Reds are 4-4-1 on the spring and face the Oakland A's at 4 05 pm Monday as Mike Lincoln makes his third start of the spring with updates on 700 WLW.
